This is an essential companion to James Brown's original early-seventies releases of relentless funk. There are some obnoxious touches by the compilers (a pointless "bonus beat" edit of "Funky Drummer," and an excerpt from "Give It Up Or Turnit A Loose" inexplicably tacked onto the beginning of "I Got To Move" as an intro) but by and large the tracks are full-fledged and undeniable examples of Brown's genius. "I Got To Move" is worth the price of admission alone; it's hard to believe that this track didn't see release until 1986, when the original version of this compilation (minus the complete version of "Blind Man Can See It," which appeared in short form on the "Black Caesar" soundtrack) was released. "In The Jungle Groove" is a must-own for fans and a decent introduction for the uninitiated as well.

haha... totally disagree with your comments about the Funky Drummer Bonus Break being unnecessary! Was used at PE's UK concert by Term X and then appeared tacked onto the end of Rebel Without A Pause on a Nation Of Millions lp... AWESOME.
